United Way focuses on critical impact areas: Community Resiliency, Financial Security, Youth Opportunity, and Healthy Communities. In Connecticut, 40% of households fall below the ALICE Threshold (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed), which means they earn more than the federal poverty level but less than the basic cost of living.
For Chelsea Groton’s part, one of the many ways team members have proudly supported the local community is by participating in the United Way Workplace Giving Campaign, an annual tradition of giving back, empowering others, and making a difference since 1956.
“Neighbors supporting one another for the betterment of the shared community can have such a profound impact on so many,” said Anthony A. Joyce, III, President and CEO of Chelsea Groton Bank. “United Way of Southeastern Connecticut exemplifies this spirit, fostering generosity and uniting efforts to ensure every child, every family, and every individual has the chance to flourish. We’re honored to stand behind and support their mission through our individual and collective efforts.”
Workplace Giving raises awareness of community needs and United Way’s mission while fostering meaningful connections. Each October, team members at many area employers including Chelsea Groton Bank are encouraged to donate or volunteer. Contributions can be made through payroll deductions, one-time gifts, dressing Casual for a Cause, or volunteering at United Way events.
During this year’s Workplace Giving month, the Chelsea Groton team rallied to contribute $21,510 to the United Way of Southeastern Connecticut.
But the commitment doesn’t stop there. In response to the increased need for food due to the recent government shutdown and pause in SNAP benefits earlier this month, like many area businesses and organizations, Chelsea Groton sought ways to help. In early November, Chelsea Groton Bank and the Chelsea Groton Foundation contributed $10,000 to the Gemma E. Moran Labor Food Center. Additionally, throughout November, all Chelsea Groton Bank branch locations are collecting non-perishable goods for local food pantries.
