This spring, the Chelsea Groton Foundation awarded $202,950 to 73 non-profit organizations from Connecticut and Rhode Island. Inclusive of these donations, the Foundation has proudly provided over $5.7 million in total grants to the community since 1998.

Educational projects accounted for 22% of giving, arts and culture organizations received 18% of funding, housing-specific causes received 4%, and economic development, environment, and animal welfare organizations received 1% of funds each.

While organizations that support youth activities received 8% of funds, many of the grants to the community were requested by organizations who typically fall under a different category requested funding to support youth-focused programs and projects. These projects include $7,500 to Higher Edge for leveraging education equity and professional opportunities for underrepresented youth (education), $5,000 to WARM Center Inc. for Anita’s Kitchen food programs (health and human services), $4,750 to Riverfront Children’s Center, Inc., for Scholar Dollars: childcare and early learning subsidies for lower-income families (education), $4,000 to Eastern Connecticut Workforce Investment Board, Inc. “Chelsea Groton has been committed to supporting organizations that are critical to the success of our shared community throughout our history. I’m incredibly proud that our Foundation is once again able to give back to our area organizations in such a big way,” shared Anthony A. Joyce, III, President and CEO of Chelsea Groton Bank, and President of the Chelsea Groton Foundation.  “One of the best parts of being a mutual community bank is our ability to put funds right back into the community where we live and work. We received and reviewed the largest number of grant requests since the pandemic began. We are proud to respond to this need in several ways, including through Foundation grants, always striving to make the broadest impact with the funds that we have available for distribution.”

The Foundation typically reviews applications and awards grants two times per year. Each year, the Bank and Foundation support more than 300 local organizations through monetary gifts, grants, sponsorships, scholarships and employee volunteerism.
