Josh Lord, a rising senior at Fairfield University, is studying Finance and Business Analytics. He recently gained hands-on experience as a Retail Banking intern at Chelsea Groton Bank, supporting daily branch operations at the Groton, Center Groton, and Mystic branches.
Impact of Chelsea
One of the highlights of Josh’s internship was the supportive and collaborative culture. Working in a community bank provided valuable exposure to the industry, allowing him to take an active role in branch operations while building relationships with team members across the organization.
Growth in Action
Throughout his internship, Josh developed important professional skills, including communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking, while assisting customers with a variety of banking needs. His experience also expanded his understanding of how different departments worked together to serve customers, further strengthening his customer service skills.
Josh also participated in a “walk in my shoes” experience with the Financial Services team, where he spent time with financial advisors and team leadership. The opportunity offered a deeper look into wealth management and provided valuable guidance as he explores future career paths.
Beyond the Office
Outside of work, Josh enjoys golfing, traveling, and staying active. A Stonington native, he volunteers with the Stonington Youth Soccer Program, helping lead drills and mentor young players of all ages.
Looking Forward
After graduation, Josh hopes to pursue a career in wealth management or another area of finance. “I’m especially appreciative of the branch teams that have supported my learning throughout the internship,” shared Josh. “While banking concepts and systems can be complex, the strong training and mentorship I have received have helped me build confidence and broaden my skill set.”
