Since 2001, the Chelsea Groton Foundation has distributed more than $1,422,500 to hundreds of organizations in Connecticut and Rhode Island.
Continuing its mission to give back to the communities it serves, the Chelsea Groton Foundation recently distributed $57,600 to 32 charitable organizations that serve the communities of Southeastern Connecticut and Southwestern Rhode Island. Foundation President Eric Janney remarked, "Chelsea Groton is a very special bank with a reputation for giving back to the communities it serves that is second to none. The grants the Foundation awards twice each year play a critical role in bettering the local area."
Highlights of the Spring 2012 grant recipients include: Mystic Area Shelter and Hospitality which received $4,000 to support the emergency shelter program, New London Community Meal Center which received $4,000 to pay for utility expenses, United Way of Southeastern Connecticut which received $5,000 to purchase food the Gemma Moran United Way Labor Food Center, the Waterford Country School which received $5,000 to construct the Otto Graham Gymnasium, and the Women's Center of Southeastern Connecticut which received $5,000 to fund a part-time crisis counselor position. Each year, Chelsea Groton Bank and the Chelsea Groton Foundation support more than 200 local, nonprofit organizations through monetary support, grants, sponsorships, scholarships, and employee volunteerism via donations of time and talent. In 2011, the Bank and its employees donated more than $277,000 and nearly 9,000 hours to benefit this community.
